How do I handle awards when an individual specialist is in the optional competitions?

This can be handled easiest by having the coaches be responsible to tell the meet directors at check- in or on the registration form that there is a specialist in the meet. The scoring person will have to be aware that this gymnast would receive a duplicate award as the all- around gymnast. For example, gymnast A, AA gymnast, gets a second place on beam and gymnast B , the individual  beam specialist, gets a second place on beam. BOTH gymnasts are awarded duplicate awards. Please read pages 35 and 52 in Rules and Policies to assist with this rule.

Thank you, Char Christensen, Region V, RTCC

Mount Trainer

I have been made aware that there is some confusion in the field regarding a mat that looks like a springboard (mount trainer).

Prior to the 2005-06 season, it was allowed at only the compulsory levels. Last year (2006-07) it was added to the R & P on page 78,

top #5. b.” At Levels 7-10, a manufactured mount mat (mount trainer) may be used for mounting purposes.”

This year it is still in the R & P (same page & #), but no longer in bold font, as it is not new.

Please make sure that the Meet Directors and Meet Referees know that this is an allowed piece of equipment at both compulsory and optional JO Levels.

Thanks,

Connie Maloney
