Hot Shot camp is closed out as of August 6, 2008.
Message from John Geddert: Attached is a brief explanation of how entries are handled at the various camps. We have been having some issues with clubs entering levels that are not appropriate for the camp. Now we fully realize that a level 7 at some gyms may
very well be as talented or experienced as a level 9 at another club...we really
still have little options but to stick to entering athletes based on their level
from the previous year (barring sending in proof of skill videos)
Region 5 Training Camp Information 2008
Hello Region V, Hopefully this email finds you surviving the summer as it relates to gymnastics, compounded by our economy in question. It is time again to start looking into our R5 training camps. We would like to congratulate all Region 5 coaches and administrators again on an incredible showing at both level 9 and 10 nationals. This past year the level 9’s did something thought impossible, we swept all age groups. This is an amazing accomplishment and also a testament to ALL region 5 coaches for their solid coaching! Our level 10’s came out with a national title but struggled a bit in their overall performance. In many age groups we were not beat, we just beat our selves. Unfortunately, we counted steps and falls that contributed to R5 not dominating national age groups. Yet again over all we stood out as the strongest region in the country. With all of that in mind we need to start staffing our R5 camps in order to continue our success at the national level. Many coaches this year were” surprised” to have to pay for their national apparel. Some of the shock was related to first time qualifiers, additionally past qualifier coaches were equally “shocked” to pay for apparel due to lack of coaching at one of our many camps. R5 policy is that the actual coach receiving apparel must work a camp. In my case for example: I work multiple camps (due to position) LGA staff member Jeff worked 2 camps, yet LGA (owner/coach) Angi who attended Nationals ( I cannot coach beam). LGA paid for Angi’s apparel – she did not work a camp. (Additionally she went crazy shopping on her own) With all of that information in mind, I would like all coaches/owners/administrators to email me as to which camps they plan on bringing athletes and which camps they are planning on sending staff to. My goal is to have staff members in place early enough so that they can communicate with each other in regards to lesson plans and goals for the weekend. I understand that volunteering for a weekend is a very daunting task. As I just met with our “next” booster club the biggest thing I could bring to them comes from the IRS “The mission is to support the organization, this is done through participation. Participants are volunteers receiving no pay but contributing to a greater cause for the persons or groups that organization supports”. R5 is a great organization to be part of R5 gives benefit to both coach and athlete that no other region can come close. We need your participation in our camps in order to support our athletes in their dreams. Please email me with any information regarding you or your staff working R5 training camps this year. Best of luck this summer and keep your athletes healthy David Rawles Libertyville Gymnastics Academy 2610 Commerce Drive Libertyville Il 60048 dave@lga-gymnastics.com 848-816-6618 gym 847-980-5575 cell |
